Description

Description

Anisininew Okimawin (formerly Island Lake Tribal Council) represents the Anisininew (Oji-Cree) First Nations of eastern Manitoba, including Garden Hill, Red Sucker Lake, St. Theresa Point, and Wasagamack. Situated within the boreal forest and ancestral waterways, the region maintains strong linguistic, cultural, and spiritual traditions distinct to the Anisininew people.
The flag’s vertical tri-color bar of yellow, green, and blue embodies the land, forests, and waters that have sustained the Anisininew nations for generations. At the center, the sacred emblem showcases traditional artwork depicting native wildlife, evergreen forests, and sacred feathers contained within a medicine wheel design.
Anisininew Okimawin serves as a unified voice for regional governance, advocacy, community development, and the protection of inherent rights and treaty relationships across the Island Lake region.
