The coat of arms of Haiti is an intricate emblem. It features a royal palm tree topped with a Phrygian cap (a symbol of liberty), surrounded by six national flags. Below the palm, there are various items symbolizing the nation’s independence and its readiness to defend it: cannons, cannonballs, ship anchors, axes, and trumpets. A white ribbon below the coat of arms bears the national motto: “L’Union Fait La Force” (Unity Makes Strength). This harmonious blend of colours and meaningful symbols creates a fabric emblem that vividly articulates Haiti’s profound historical narrative, its resilience, and its aspirations for a strong, unified, and free future. The current flag was officially readopted on February 26, 1986, after periods of various flag designs.
