The green stripe represents the Fatimid Caliphate, symbolizing the fertile land and the hope for prosperity. These three colours are traditional Pan-Arab colours, signifying the shared history and aspirations of Arab nations. The red triangle symbolizes the Hashemite dynasty, which rules Jordan, and represents the Great Arab Revolt, which united Arabs against Ottoman rule. The seven-pointed white star holds multiple meanings: it represents the seven verses of the first surah (Al-Fatiha) of the Quran, the unity of the Arab people, and the seven hills on which Amman (the capital) was built. The seven points also symbolize faith in One God, humanity, national spirit, humility, social justice, charity, and aspiration. The current flag was officially adopted on April 18, 1928, during the British Mandate, and retained after independence in 1946.
