The top third of the shield features a horizontal white strip with a blue wavy line, representing the northwest passage as it traverses the ice pack. Below this, the shield is divided diagonally, with red (upper right ) and green (lower left) sections, representing the treeline. These sections contain gold bars (representing minerals), a fox’s head (representing fur-bearing animals)¹.
