The blue stripe represents loyalty, the sky and it’s ties to France, one of Andorra’s two co-princes. The red stripe symbolizes courage, protection and it’s ties to Spain, the other co-prince. The yellow stripe signifies prosperity and Andorra’s independence and its unique position between these two powerful neighbours. The coat of arms is a complex shield, quartered to display the arms of the Bishop of Urgell (a mitre and crozier), the Count of Foix (three vertical red pales on gold), Catalonia (four vertical red pales on gold), and the Viscount of Béarn (two red cows on gold). Below the shield, the motto “Virtus Unita Fortior” (United Virtue is Stronger) is inscribed. These elements collectively reflect Andorra’s historical ties, its unique political structure, and its values.
