The flag features Green and gold, the city’s official colours, each carrying significant symbolism:

• The green vertical stripe 1/3 the length at the hoist represents the growing crops, lush farmlands and the fertile agricultural heritage of Saskatchewan, which has been fundamental to Saskatoon’s growth and prosperity. It also evokes the verdant landscapes along the South Saskatchewan River, with a sprig of Saskatoon berries, the city’s namesake.
• Thirteen horizontal stripes resembling the U.S. flag¹ divide the remaining 2/3 of the fly end;
  • The six white middle stripe symbolizes the South Saskatchewan River itself, which gracefully flows through the city and is integral to its identity and landscape, giving Saskatoon its distinctive “City of Bridges” nickname. It also represents the clarity and spirit of the community.
  • The seven gold (yellow) stripes represents each of the seven districts North Park, City Park, Pleasant Hill, Mayfair, Caswell Hill, City Centre, and Nutana and the abundant sunshine of the prairies, the golden wheat fields that define the region, and the promise of prosperity and a bright future for the city.

Centred between the vertical green stripe and horizontal stripes is a bezant containing the city’s coat of arms.
